Parrish, FL
Parrish, Florida, is an unincorporated community in the northwestern part of Manatee County. The community is located near the intersection of U.S. 301 and State Road 62 and is part of the North Port–Sarasota–Bradenton Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Local accounts of how Parrish got its name differ. What is known is that Maj. William Iredell Turner, a Civil War veteran, became the owner of the Oak Hill plantation, the forerunner of Parrish, in 1865. He sold the land to Crawford Parrish, a cattle rancher who moved to the area in 1868. The Parrish family raised cattle and sheep and planted citrus groves. Eventually other families started ranches nearby and a small business district including a general store, post office, blacksmith’s shop and railroad depot sprang up.
In current times, the city of Parrish includes families, senior citizens, and professionals, providing residents with a small town, rural feel and tranquil, outdoors way of life, all within close proximity to the beautiful beaches of Florida’s West coast, Ellenton outlet mall, UTC, and major city centers of St. Pete, Tampa & Sarasota for those who want to catch a major sporting event, festival or who commute for their job.
In September 2023, the median sold price of a home in Parrish was $455,074, with closed sales up 148% from a year ago. This is lower than the median sold price of a home in Lakewood Ranch, which was $620,388. So you can see why people are moving to this growing area North of the Manatee River in Manatee County. It offers great value comparatively, decent sized homesites, close proximity to West FL attractions, many school options, continued office & retail development with more on the way and a great small town feel.
